The client’s vision

BCLogia approached us with an idea for their own app for a special industrial QR code reader used by waste collection crews. They already had a similar app, but wanted to build one their own way and add further features.

About the app

DIGI-P is an Android mobile app that operators use in the field. It is built for special handheld readers. The operator scans the container label, adds what kind of container it is and at which address it stands, and saves the record.

It solves a problem that comes up in the field all the time: signal is often weak and paper records are hard to retype. So the app works on its own and sends data to the server only when it can.

The look is deliberately simple. An industrial reader is not very powerful, so this project was less about top design and more about reliable logic behind the scenes: saving without signal, catching duplicates and sending data.

Key features

  • Label scanning

The operator reads the container label with the reader and does not retype anything.

  • Address suggestion by location

The app offers the nearest addresses based on location, and the operator only picks the right one or enters an address missing from the list.

  • Container details

A record can include the container type and volume, ownership, household or subject, apartment number and a note.

  • Duplicate check

If the same container was already recorded that day, the app warns the operator, who decides whether to edit the record or duplicate it.

  • History and sending data

The operator sees their records and whether they were sent. Data is sent automatically and can also be sent by hand.

  • Sign-in without internet

Sign-in also works without a connection, so field work does not stop.

What was hardest

  • 1. The app works without signal

There is often no internet in the field, but records must never be lost. All data is first saved on the device and sent to the server through a queue: right after saving if a connection exists, otherwise in the background about every 15 minutes once signal appears. We also make sure a record is not sent twice and that older sent data is cleaned up automatically.

  • 2. The right address without internet

The list of addresses from the public register is huge, and the operator needs it where there is no signal. We made it possible to download addresses for chosen municipalities in advance, prepare them on the device so they can be searched quickly by location, and offer the nearest addresses while working. The download runs in parts and shows progress so the app does not freeze.

  • 3. Sign-in and device identity

The operator must be able to sign in without internet, and the sign-in must expire after a time. So the app remembers who is signed in, checks how long the sign-in is valid, and recognises each device even after the app is reinstalled, so records can be assigned correctly.

What we did

  • Android app development in Flutter
  • Connection to the client's server and data sending
  • Offline work and data synchronisation
  • Monitoring of errors in the running app
