The client’s vision

Nezávodím pomáhám is a foundation that was looking for new ways to raise money for its work. It came to us with a clear vision: to bring movement and giving together in one app. We turned that vision into reality.
Client websiteAbout the app
Nezávodím pomáhám is a mobile app for walkers and athletes of every level. It tracks route, distance and time for eleven kinds of movement, from walking and running to cycling and skiing. Results are saved in a personal history and ranked on a shared leaderboard.
The app connects sport with helping others, specifically people with disabilities. For each activity, users can send a contribution to a transparent account using a QR code. People get a reason to move and can see that their contribution has a clear purpose.
Key features
Activity tracking
Users start tracking, see their route on a map, and can pause it or finish it with a swipe.
Leaderboard
Users see how they compare with others, including a podium for the top places.
Challenges
Users take on time-limited goals, such as covering a set distance, and follow their progress.
Contribution via QR code
Users can contribute for an activity by showing or saving a QR code and paying it in their banking app.
Personal profile and statistics
Users get an overview of their activities, total distance and time, and can set a nickname and photo.
One-tap sign-in
Users sign in with their Google or Apple account and go through a short introduction on first launch.
What was hardest
1. Tracking a route with the screen off
Phones save battery by putting background apps to sleep. Yet tracking has to keep going when the phone is in a pocket or locked. We set it up so the route is recorded reliably on both iPhone and Android, with a visible notice for the user. The app also asks for the required permissions in the right way.
2. The app works without a signal
People often exercise in forests or mountains with no internet. Activities are therefore saved on the phone first and sent to the server once a connection returns. Users do not have to do anything, and no results are lost. Each user receives only their own data from the server.
3. Contributions that can be tied to an activity
Banks carry only a short numeric code in a QR payment, not a long activity identifier. So each activity gets its own nine-digit payment code, which can later be matched against the statement of the transparent account. The project also includes a helper tool for tracing past payments.
